Sports: Results From The Grade 8 Provincial Basketball Championships At Pitt Meadows Secondary

By David Murray: The Grade 8 Boys & Girls Provincial Basketball Championships took place this weekend at Pitt Meadows Secondary. Winning the Girls BC Championship was Semiahmoo. They dominated the final beating London (Steveston) 89-25. Semiahmoo’s #20 Izzy Forsyth was the MVP of the Girls tournament.
Winning the Grade 8 boys side was Burnaby South which edged Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle (Abbotsford) 58-55.
The MVP of the boys tournament was Justin Sunga from Burnaby South.
The Pitt Meadows boys team had a good tournament they started off playing Winston Churchill in the opening game, losing 58-33, They lost a nail biter to Vernon in overtime 56-55. This brought them to their third game of the tournament where they lost a close game to Ladysmith (Vancouver Island) 49-37. Playing on the last day of the tournament (Saturday) they lost another close game to South Kamloops 40-29. Pitt Meadows #21 Matthew Loge was chosen to the third provincial all-star team.

The girls results were as follows, they lost to Walnut Grove in their first game 60-24, the second game was against Fleetwood Park , they were defeated 58-32.
The third round of the B.C. Championships saw the Pitt Meadows girls play Seaquam in a closer game seeing the home side go down 52-31. The final day (Saturday) of the tournament saw Pitt Meadows narrowly drop a very close game to Eric Hamber 31-24.
