Pitt Meadows News: Two Suspicious Fires Have Ridge Meadows RCMP Assisting Maple Ridge Fire Department
Submitted. Ridge Meadows RCMP are assisting the Maple Ridge Fire Department regarding two suspicious fires. The first was a house fire in the 24400 block of Dewdney Trunk Road. Emergency Services were advised of the fire at the vacant house at approximately 10:15 p.m. Monday April 30, 2012.A second suspicious fire sent both Maple Ridge Fire Department and Ridge Meadows RCMP members to the Maple Ridge Towing compound on McKay Avenue.
Fire and Police were alerted to a vehicle being on fire just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2012. The Fire Department were able to extinguish the blaze by spraying water on the burning vehicle from outside the fenced compound. As a result, one car was totally destroyed while four other vehicles parked nearby were damaged.
Police are working with the Fire Department to establish the origins of both fires, and both matters are under investigation.
Charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance sought.
Ridge Meadows RCMP will be seeking a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking against a 21 year old Maple Ridge man. Police stopped the suspect around 9:45 p.m. on Monday April 30, 2012 in the 10400 block of 240 Street in Maple Ridge. Police have seized what they believe to be cocaine, which was contained in several small packages. A quantity of cash and other items associated to the distribution of illegal drugs was also seized. The man was released on a Promise to Appear pending the further investigation.
