Pitt Meadows Joins National Volunteer Challenge

Pitt Meadows, BC – In support of National Volunteer Week April 23 – 29, the City of Pitt

Meadows announced that it is one of the first municipalities in BC to join the national Canada 150

for 150 volunteer drive program.

The Canada 150 for 150 program invites all Canadians to give 150 hours of their time during 2017

and give back to their communities and their country by making a difference. Citizens should

register for the challenge by signing up at volunteer150for150.ca where they can track their

volunteer hours, share volunteer stories, and see what other communities across Canada are doing

for the challenge.

“There are lots of exciting volunteer opportunities in Pitt Meadows in special events, recreation,

and arts, heritage and culture,” said City special events coordinator Terra Dickinson.

“We’re working on adding more volunteer opportunities with our Environmental Stewardship

programs and other City departments as well, so people who would like to participate in the

challenge will have lots of ways to get involved, support their community and put Pitt Meadows on

the map as part of the 150 for 150 Challenge.”

Council recently approved the City’s first volunteer policy, which outlines the many ways the City

and residents can work together and the City is very excited to offer volunteer opportunities to

residents who want to get involved in their community.

“Encouraging residents to get involved in volunteerism builds stronger communities, and my

Council colleagues and I encourage Pitt Meadows to join the challenge during Canada’s 150th

anniversary year,” said Mayor John Becker.

Pitt Meadows municipal staff will be wearing “Pitt Meadows loves volunteers” pins this week in

celebration of National Volunteer Week.
