CITY RECEIVES FEDERAL INVESTMENT FOR NEW HARRIS ROAD SPRAY PARK

PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows received a federal investment of $100,000 in a

presentation at Tuesday’s Council Meeting for an upgraded spray park at Harris Road Park. Pitt

Meadows-Maple Ridge MP Dan Ruimy attended on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, who is the

Minister for Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western

Economic Diversification Canada, to announce the funding under the Canada 150 Community

Infrastructure program.

“On behalf of the federal government, I am pleased to provide this investment to Pitt Meadows under

the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary. This funding

will support community recreation at Harris Road Park for children and their families in Pitt Meadows,

with a brand-new water-efficient spray park system and expanded play features,” said MP Ruimy.

The project involves removing the current spray equipment, resurfacing the area, upgrading the

plumbing and installing new water efficient spray park equipment and restoring the surrounding

landscaping in the park. Total costs will be $350,000, with the City contributing $250,000. Upgrades are

scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, with completion in June.

“Thanks to this investment, this is an excellent addition to recreation services in our first year of Pitt

Meadows’ own parks and recreation services,” said Mayor John Becker.

“We are hoping it will be complete and ready for operation on Pitt Meadows Day on June 3, depending

on construction schedules.”

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is part of Canada 150 Celebrates, the Government

of Canada’s celebration of the country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. Through investments in

community infrastructure administered by Western Economic Diversification Canada, the Government

of Canada is investing in projects that seek to renovate, expand and improve existing community

infrastructure, with a focus on recreational facilities, projects that advance a clean growth economy, and

projects with a positive impact on Indigenous communities.
