Fatal vehicle accident shuts down Lougheed Hwy

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) are investigating a single vehicle fatal car crash.

On Saturday August 26, around 4:15 PM., a car was travelling East on Lougheed Highway, near the 25600 block, when the driver veered off road travelling down the embankment striking several trees. Tragically the passenger died at the scene and the driver was transported to Hospital via ambulance. Early investigation indicates speed was a factor in this tragic accident.

Police shut down East bound traffic for approx. 6 hours to collect evidence and conduct a thorough investigation which is still continuing. Roads were reopened around 11pm.
