Business: BC Business Names Pitt Meadows In Top Ten Best Cities For Work
BC BUSINESS NAMES PITT MEADOWS IN TOP TEN BEST CITIES FOR WORK
PITT MEADOWS, BC – Mayor John Becker paid tribute to Pitt Meadows being named the seventh best city in BC for work during the Celebrate Pitt Meadows segment of last week’s Council meeting. BC Business Magazine released its annual “Best Cities for Work in BC” list, and Pitt Meadows cracked the top ten this year, sitting in the seventh spot for 2017.
“Clearly we’re trending exactly where we need to be, and our Business Readiness policy that we’ve adopted as our economic driver has helped our ranking and earned us recognition,” said Mayor Becker.
“I think this speaks to the work of our City staff and the work that they do to create a ‘Business Ready’ culture at City Hall.”
The ranking is based on seven economic indicators: average household income; average household income under age 35; average household spending on recreation; average shelter costs; five-year population growth; five-year average household income growth; and unemployment rate. Each factor was weighted differently in the calculations, that BC Business felt reflected the health of city job markets.
In Pitt Meadows, the average household income was calculated at $102,709, with the average household income under 35 at $98,052. Average household spending on recreation was $5,965, and average shelter costs (current consumption, including necessary living expenses such as rent, mortgage payments, and critical repairs, not purchase costs) was $23,082. The five-year population growth from 2011 to 2016 was 7.23%, and the five-year income growth from 2011 to 2016 was 14.30%. Pitt Meadows’ unemployment rate was 5.30%.
Pitt Meadows ranked 15th on the BC Business Best Cities for Work in BC list last year. The full list can be viewed at bcbusiness.com.
